  1. This story is about a wife (Nora) who is hiding a secret from her husband. She has managed to hide it from her husband, up until the moment when he is promoted Manager of the Bank. That is when things start taking a turn in Nora's perfect life.

I think that this play is something that many people could relate to. Sometimes we have secrets that we don't want anybody to know about. We keep them because we want to protect something or someone, and this is the case of Nora. She is hiding this secret for many reasons, and among one of the reasons is to protect her loving husband.

  2. The first part of Doll's House was very interesting to read. It detailed the life of the upper class of Helmer and his wife, Nora. Together, they managed to survive past a life-threatening illness and offered a position as a bank manager. With everything going good, an old friend, Mrs. Linde, comes along and asks for a job. Nora happily encourages her husband to find her a job at the bank. Before she does, a good friend of the family, Doctor Rank, informs them a lawyer named Krogstad seems morally diseased.

The 250 pounds used to cover the bill for Helmer's illness is in question. Supposedly, Nora's father gave her the money, but after she talked with Mrs.Linde, that is not the case. After Krogstad appears again to meet with Nora, it is revealed she owes him the money. Krogstad uses the money and the knowledge she had committed fraud by writing the signature to blackmail her into keeping his job at the bank.

It is quite a turn of events from being a peaceful family to one with secrets. For now, she is stuck with complying with his motive. Soon I hope, she will tell Helmer about it as to pay it all off and resume normal life. Unfortunately, I do not see this happening anytime soon.

  3. This play is interesting as it speaks of a different time and place. In this setting it is a time when the wife is expected to be all about being a wife and mother rather than an equal partner. Nora has taken on an expanded role by getting money to save her husbands life. She has done so at a cost though she has taken a loan which for the setting is bad but she has also forged a name on the loan making it worse. She can not tell anyone until her friend Christine comes.

It is understandable that she can not tell her husband as I feel he would never understand. I feel that he is very demeaning to his wife. He calls her his "little" this and that and treats her more as a child than as an equal or partner.

Then the plot thickens when the person who loaned her the money approaches her to help him keep his job and not be fired by her husband. She is not truly in a bad position. She has to help this man but can not tell her husband why.

This play does have a lot of twists and turns and gives us a look at what life was like during the time period.

  4. This play is very enticing as it keeps you wondering what is going to happen next. Nora and Helmer are a married couple. Helmer had medical issues that forced them to go to Italy. Nora went behind her husbands back to save his life and Helmer thought it was her father who gave Nora the money but in actuality it was Kroge. Helmer has been promoted to manager of the bank and must cut a few positions one of which of Kroge. Mrs. Linde a widow and a good friend of Nora's comes to visit and Nora asks her husband to get her a job. This would take the place of Kroge. Nora keeps asking her husband not to let Kroge go as she has fraudently signed her fathers name on the bond document for the loan that she borrowed to save her husbands life. Life many times has secrets in which it is best not to reveal. However, I believe in honesty and not sure why she doesn't speak and let her husband know. If he truly loves her he will understand and together they can figure out repaying him back and work thru it. I look forward to reading the next section of this play as I enjoyed the first section.
