Respond here with some thoughts on one or more of the poems assigned for today's readings.

  1. The poem that I enjoyed the most was the Chimney Weeper by William Blake. The reason I liked it is because It was easy to read and it told a story. A little boy named Tom who had a dream where an angel told him that if he were a good boy, God could be his father.

The other poems where good too, but with some of them I had a hard time reading them or understanding what was going on. For example "Visions" by Francesco Petrarch. The easiest poems to read where the Haiku's by Basho Matsuo.

  2. I enjoyed the poem, Alone, written by Edgar Allen Poe. Ever since since I was younger I always admired his writings whenever my brother tried to tell me what message it conveyed. I liked this poem especially because of a sense of not being able to relate to other peoples' thoughts and opinions. Reason to title it Alone, it reminds me of when I was a kid and didn't really know what to do when I grew older.

The other poems were also interesting with a translated and old English poems being a little bit confusing. For the most part, many of the poems ended with hope such as liberty in the prison and becoming an angel in the afterlife.

  3. I enjoyed reading the Haiku poems. I am more than a few years out of college the first time but I remember looking at poems then and Haiku was my favorite then also. I recall writing poems for class back then as we did today and enjoying writing them then. The college has a "book" it publishes every year called something like "Voices from Nowhere" that has poems written by students. I had a poem in there the year I was in class before. After today I think that I am going to see if anyone here still has archive copies that I can find and see my writing from before. Again this class surprised me by how much I enjoy the things we are doing.

  4. I enjoy the Haiku poems as that was my favorite in highschool years ago. However out of all the poems my favorite was to Althea from prison. Several of the other poems in my opinion were harder to follow and comprehend. I use to write several poems so I enjoyed getting the opportunity to read these.
